Eric Figeroux, 28, was arrested following an investigation into reported gunshots which led to a chaotic scene that ended with him behind bars, according to the sheriff's office.

Over the weekend, officers responded to the 2700 block of Crain Highway in Waldorf in the early hours of Saturday when gunshots rang out in the area.

As members of the Charles County Sheriff's Office approached, they say they spotted a vehicle fleeing the area and a man walking away and holding on to what appeared to be a handgun stashed in his waistband.

According to officials, Figeroux refused to comply with officers' demands, and was arrested after striking one of them and resisting arrest.

A loaded gun with an extended magazine was recovered at the scene, and spent shell casings were found in the area where they first saw him.

The Waldorf resident was arrested and charged with second-degree assault, illegal possession of a firearm due to a previous conviction, and other related charges.

It was also determined that Figeroux had four active warrants out or his arrest for probation violations.

He is being held at the Charles County Detention Center without bond pending his next court appearance on Friday, March 29.

Anyone with details regarding the case has been asked to contact Sgt. Savoy at the sheriff's office by calling (301) 609-3282 ext. 0288.

The investigation is ongoing.
